The Global Innovation eXchange (GIX) is a global partnership between major universities and corporations to develop thought leaders in innovation. The first academic partners are Tsinghua University in China and the University of Washington in the U.S., with a brand new, state of the art facility in the greater Seattle area.
Exponential growth in connected devices is expected over the next decade, resulting in tremendous social and economic value as the Internet of Things, Ubiquitous Computing, Wearable Computing, and Smart Devices become dramatically more cost effective, simpler to develop, and increasingly mainstream. Connected devices are expected to advance diverse fields ranging from health to natural resource management. To invent new applications and develop the expanding connected device market, leaders are required to be knowledgeable about a vast of technology, understand prototyping and design and have entrepreneurial skills. We address global challenges by interdisciplinary project oriented education. We train students on how to integrate resources and leverage the innovation ecosystem to change the world.
Connected Devices is the first dual master’s degree program offered by GIX. Students must achieve the degree requirements of both universities. Since its establishment, the GIX has welcomed the first two cohorts of 44 students from 10 countries. Starting in the fall of 2019, prospective students with innovation consciousness, vision and a sense of responsibility and mission start their study in Seattle.

Through the GIX project-based learning and team-work model, students will collaborate on solutions to a range of global challenges and business needs.

GIX graduates will have acquired the technical expertise, design thinking skills and business knowledge to launch their own startup, join a new venture team at a leading company or nonprofit, or advance their academic pursuits.
